Our first print issue, The Republic, examines republicanism as the radical idea of self-rule — not merely opposition to monarchy, but the democratic control of our lives, society, and future. This issue features contributions from leading Irish and international voices alongside emerging writers and political thinkers, including Gerry Adams, Clare Daly, Vincent Bevins, Claire Mitchell, Phillip Pettit, Margaret Ward, Kieran Allen, Ursula Ní Shionnain, and Cian O’Callaghan.

With An Clogán, we hope to facilitate the debates and discussions most urgently needed today. As Fintan Lalor once wrote: “Without agreement as to our objects, we cannot agree on the course we should follow.”

We aim to play a small role in clarifying our shared objectives and charting a course toward the socialist republic.
